Adding The Care Handbook to Your Start Screen

The Care Handbook is a Progressive Web App (PWA) which is a web application built using modern web technologies that are designed to work on mobile devices just like native mobile apps. One of the benefits of PWAs is that they can be added to your home screen, making them easily accessible and providing a more app-like experience.

In this guide, we will walk you through the simple steps to add a PWA to the home screen of your Android phone using Chrome and your iPhone using Safari. Whether you’re using an Android or an iPhone, the process is easy and can be completed in just a few simple steps. So, let’s get started!

Adding a PWA to an Android Phone using Chrome:

  1. Open the Chrome app and navigate to the domain you have been given by your manager, e.g. https://mysite.handbook.care.Ā  Or, you may have been asked to scan a QR code on one of our posters make sure it opens in Chrome.
  2. At the bottom of the home page you will notice a prompt asking you to ‘install the care handbook app’.Ā  Click this.Ā  Alternatively, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the screen and select “Install app”.
  3. A new prompt will appear asking you to either cancel or install, click install.
  4. You should see a pop up briefly which reads ‘installing The Care Handbook’
  5. If you go the your app list now you will see The Care Handbook icon at the top. you may also see another notification informing you that the app has installed.
  6. Touch and hold the icon which will reveal a set of commands including Add to home. Press this.
  7. The App is now accessible from your home screen.

Adding a PWA to an iPhone using Safari:

  1. Open Safari and navigate to the domain you have been given by your manager, e.g. https://mysite.handbook.care.Ā  Or, you may have been asked to scan a QR code on one of our posters make sure it opens in Safari.
  2. Tap the “Share” icon at the bottom of the screen (it looks like a square with an upward arrow).
  3. Scroll down the list of options until you see “Add to Home Screen” and tap it.
  4. Tap “Add” in the top right corner. The PWA will now appear on your home screen like any other app.
