Getting Started with The Handbook

Created as a specialised Learning and Development tool, The Care Handbook is designed to guide your journey from novice to expert in the field of Health and Social Care. As you navigate through this exciting path, you’ll have the opportunity to earn points from a range of activities, including;

  • Completing your Onboarding and Induction
  • Completing various e-learning courses
  • Submitting reflective practice logs
  • Earning recognition for either embodying your Organisation’s Core Values or the 6 Cs

Where to begin?

As a new user, your first step is to complete the onboarding process to gain full access to the app. Once onboarding is complete, you’ll be directed to the home page. If your manager has added all necessary information, you should see your profile picture along with a personalised greeting.

Below your profile picture, you’ll notice five stars, which represent the five stages of expertise, ranging from Novice to Expert. The green star, signifying the Novice level, will initially be in focus. You can request your corresponding Green pin badge from your manager the next time you’re in the office. Subsequent badges can be earned as you progress:

  • Bronze for Advanced Beginner,
  • Silver for Competent,
  • Gold for Proficient, and
  • Diamond for Expert.

You can click on the stars

As an example, if you click on the Bronze star it will take you to a page where you can learn how to achieve that particular proficiency.Ā  If you scroll down to the steps you will see what you need to complete to achieve the Bronze star.

If you click on the first step – Complete Reflective Learning Log – 12 Times you will be taken to the page in the Handbook that contains the Reflective Learning Log form.Ā  The Reflective Learning Log is a way for you to record and reflect on your first 12 weeks in your new role.

You can then repeat this process on any of the Star pages to find out what is next in order for you to progress.

That’s the basics and should get you on your way.Ā  There’s so much more to the Handbook though, so be sure to explore the other ‘getting Started’ articles to make sure you’re getting the most out of the experience.
